Lithium Hydroxide
Lithium hydroxide is an important raw material used in a variety of applications, sold by Bisley under the name XeolithTM. The Bisley Xeolith range encompasses lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, lithium silicate, lithium bromide and lithium acetate. Lithium is the third element on the periodic table and possesses many interesting properties, many of which lead to its use in catalysis, nuclear science, medicine and energy.
Construction
Lithium hydroxide is used as an effective accelerator in alumina cement systems and can be used to mitigate alkali-silica reaction (ASR treatment) in concrete pavements and structures. Bisley supplies a variety of grades. It is also used in paints and coatings formulations and ceramics manufacturing.
Grease and Lubricants
Bisley supplies both Lithium Hydroxide and Lithium Carbonate to the grease sector. Lithium-based grease is a lubricant to which lithium compounds have been added. Lithium-based greases enjoy a higher melting point (dropping point) than calcium greases. Lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate is reacted with fatty acids, particularly 12-hydroxy stearic acid, to form salts that disperse into, and viscosify, oils to form stable gels.
Lithium grease adheres well to metal, is non-corrosive, and may be used under heavy loads. It has a drip temperature of 190° to 220°C (350° to 400°F) and resists moisture well. It is used in diverse areas including the automotive industry and high temperature industrial applications.
