Aluminuim Fluoride

Bisley are distributors for a new manufacturer of Low Phosphorus Aluminium Fluoride.

Phosphorus is a significant impurity element in the Hall-Heroult process for producing Aluminum. High levels of Phosphorus affect some important properties of aluminium and aluminium alloys.

In addition, the Current Efficiency of the pot is lowered due to cyclic red/ox reactions at the electrodes. Several recent studies in operating pots indicate that a content of 100ppm Phosphorus in the Bath reduces the Current Efficiency of the pot by around 1%.

In 2011, a group of researchers from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Trondheim reported “The presence of phosphorus impurities (dissolved AlPO4 in Bath) was found to lower the Current Efficiency by about 0.8% per 100ppm P at a current intensity of 1.5 Amps/cm2”.
