Aluminium Sulfate (Alum)

Aluminium sulfate, commonly referred to as alum, is a chemical compound with the formula Al2(SO4)3. It is a water-soluble salt that features aluminium in a trivalent state. Alum is produced through the reaction of aluminium hydroxide with sulfuric acid, resulting in the formation of a white crystalline solid. The compound is known for its strong affinity for water, and it readily hydrates in moist air.

Construction

Aluminium Sulfate or Alum is a major accelerator in the construction industry, used in admixture, drymix, shotcrete and glass-fibre reinforced concrete (GFRC). It is also used in construction as a waterproofing agent. and is a major component of alkali-free shotcrete accelerators.

Water Treatment

It has major applications in the water treatment industry, where its large molecular size and weight, combined with low cost, make it an excellent flocculant for the treatment of both drinking water and industrial waste water. Aluminium sulfate is also used in the paper and oil manufacturing processes.

Particle Sizing and Packaging

Aluminium sulfate can be supplied in a range of particle sizes to suit customers’ requirements. Bisley offers 10 particle size grades, ranging from super fine powder with an average size less than 0.15 mm to the lump grade, which is between 35 – 80 mm. Please contact us for a full list of grades and specifications. Customisable particle size distribution may be available upon enquiry. After over 50 years in business, we understand the importance of particle size, and will do our best to help your needs be met.

Bisley offers packaged aluminium sulfate from its South East Asian distribution centres and in Australia. Material is available in 25 kg bags, 50 kg bags and 1 MT – 1.2 MT bags. Further packaging options may be available upon enquiry.

To competitively produce a high quality alum it is important to have total control over major raw materials. The most important raw material for alum production is the aluminium hydroxide, as this determines the impurities in the alum produced. With its regional offices in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, Bisley is the largest supplier of aluminium hydroxide into South East Asia. The ready availability of sulfuric acid in this region ensures our ability to supply high quality alum at very competitive prices. It also allows fast and efficient shipping to most corners of the world.
